YESTERDAY’S post about author Neil Gaiman had me thinking again about the importance of daily writing for building up the skills and habits of a good writer. In a previous post I had touched on tips and tricks to write every day. One of them was to use Habitforge.com.
Previously I had chronicled my attempts to get to the Habitforge magic number of 21 days in a row. 21 days is, of course, the number that Habitforge claim is the number of days you need to complete something before it actually becomes a habit. A large part of me liked clicking on the Yes button to confirm I had carried through on my habit for the day but there was a part of me that wondered what happened when I got to 21.
Then Christmas got in the way and writing every day didn’t seem like a good New Year’s Resolution, so I headed back onto the Habitforge trail way a few weeks back.
The good news is that today I have hit 14 days straight (proud proof below) and rapidly heading towards breaking my longest streak of 19 days. If I remain on course, then I should break through the magic 21 days on Wednesday next week.
A big part of Habitforge is that the site will highlight daily to you other people who either succeed or fail with their own habits and shows you what habit it was that they were working on. The crazy thing is the number of writers who are using Habitforge as daily motivation to write!
So many people seem to be having the same daily battle with finding time to write that I now feel I have to reach 21 days to show everyone that it works and you can do it. So I am redoubling my efforts for the next week.
